“In floral design, every day is new; every composition is unique. People who love floral design never get tired of it. You can see the same stock come in week after week, and yet, every time, you bury your face in the flowers and smell them. Their magic never fades.”
Floral design appeals to the artist in Pam Avenius. Pam graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Steven’s Point, with a degree in Fine Arts. During the early days of her career, she worked in retail and also managed an art gallery.
Eventually, her artist’s bent turned towards flowers when, in 1992, she began to design and install perennial gardens for a Carmel nursery. Four years later, she entered the floral design arena, learning the art on the job at a local flower shop and taking advanced design courses at night. In eight years, she had not only learned the craft, she was promoted to store manager.
Pam did a short stint at a one of the larger flower shops in the city but decided she missed the personal touch a more intimate shop provides. “I joined JP Parker because I was impressed with the energy, enthusiasm, and vision Pam Parker has for this business. The new downtown shop is just what a flower shop should be. It’s located in an historic building, so the setting is quaint and intimate. In the heart of downtown, we are in the perfect position to service businesses and handle special events of all sizes. But, we’re still the flower shop on the corner, where people can come in and buy a few blooms to brighten their table.”
Pam loves the variety and freedom of expression in floral design. She is gifted in every type of design, from contemporary to Japanese Ikebana, from French Country to traditional compositions. “Floral design covers more than just different styles, it expresses the gamut of emotions as well. You deal with people who are celebrating people who are mourning, and people who just want the joy that only flowers can bring.”
